The most comprehensive plans for fire reform in decades have been set out in the government’s Fire Reform White Paper, which will help strengthen the emergency services and seek to ensure people feel safer in their homes.
The changes announced include the commencement of the Fire Safety Act 2021 which will make sure all blocks of flats are properly assessed for fire safety risks and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 which will help ensure people feel safe in their homes.
The Fire Brigades Union has committed to fighting for the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to be renationalised.
The commitment came in the form of a motion passed at the union’s annual conference, the first in-person conference since the pandemic. In the union’s view BRE’s private ownership has led to failures of competency, and BRE going too far to please the corporate clients whose products it tested and whom it relied on for income.
In contracts, EQUANS has been awarded a facilities management and maintenance contract at Bruntwood SciTech’s Alderley Park campus in Cheshire – the UK’s largest single-site life science campus.
The contract includes mechanical, electrical, public health and water hygiene services, as well as minor works and capital projects.
BaxterStorey has announced a new three-year partnership with AQA, an education charity which sets and marks over half of the GCSE and A-Level exams taken in the UK every year.
As part of AQA’s extensive refurbishment programme to open its new office in Wymbush, Milton Keynes, it has created a collaborative, engaging hospitality space to suit their move to hybrid, agile working.
Mitie’s new Technical Services Operations Centre (TSOC) in Wythenshawe has been officially opened by Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester.
The Centre showcases Mitie’s industry leading workplace technology and is the business’s new Hub for the North of England.
