QED Environmental Systems Announces New Geotech GEM PRO Portable Landfill Gas Analyser

QED Environmental Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of innovative environmental products and subsidiary of Graco Inc. (NYSE: GGG), announces the new Geotech® GEM® PRO gas extraction manager.

The new GEM system benefits from a modular design, improved battery life and a large touch screen interface. These benefits combine to reduce the extensive downtime often lost to servicing and recalibration.

Built on i-Q modular technology, the Geotech GEM instrument gas cells, pressure sensors and filters are all now user-replaceable. With modules able to be changed in less than 10 minutes, operators no longer need to wait weeks for the unit to returned to the manufacturer for off-site calibration and servicing. As a result, the increased uptime can improve system efficiency through more consistent gas output monitoring while also removing any potential delays around mandatory environmental reporting.

For operators looking to expand the number of gasses monitored at any one-time, or swap existing gasses out for alternatives, new modules can be shipped within 24-hours and quickly installed by the user. New and replacement cells come with a certificate of calibration, maintaining compliance in between yearly inspection and service.

With an improved battery life of up to 10 hours, one charge will get most users through an entire eight-hour day. Not only will this enable operators to cover more wells in one shift, but it eliminates the need to structure routines around battery recharging. If needed, Geotech GEM system batteries can also be hot-swapped in the field so users can keep measuring and tuning all day.

The large five-inch high-definition touch screen interface provides instant access to critical data at a glance. The unit also benefits from an anti-glare coating that ensures visibility in all lighting conditions and hard keys to allow for easy in-field navigation.

James Jones, Product Manager – Gas Analysis & Detection at QED Environmental Systems, comments: “The integration of i-Q technology into the new Geotech GEM and GEM Pro units marks a step-change in the future of gas extraction management. The inherent modularity gives users more choice and flexibility, while the ability to conduct on-site unit maintenance will cut service and calibration-related downtime and directly improve the consistency and quality of gas output monitoring.

“Not only can users request and integrate new gas modules in days not weeks – which can cut upgrade costs by 70% – but the extended battery life means operators can now structure workflows around maximum well readings rather than technological constraints. A reorientation of the interface also means users can see important data quickly, whether they are in the field or back at base.”

The GEM instrument makes use of QED proprietary GAMSoft™ software. The software lets users manage gas field data, instrument settings, report generation and over the air firmware updates from one point.

The Affinity™ wireless communications module provides support for legacy accessories, including temperature sensors, relative humidity sensors or anemometers, reducing component inventory and improving efficiency.
