Support for young people in North East England confirmed by Equans

Hard service provider Equans has confirmed it has taken on eight new apprentices in a variety of trade and office roles.
For the first time in its apprenticeship recruitment process, the company held an ‘Apprentice Assessment Centre’ event in South Shields, giving applicants the opportunity to find out more about the business and take part in team building tasks.

Eight successful candidates were selected to join the business at the end of September.

The company reported that it plays a role in supporting and assisting women into the construction industry, and is pleased that three of its successful candidates will benefit from this. Kelsey Wilson and Chynna Robinson will be getting on-site experience as a multi-skilled operative and joiner respectively, while Chloe Flowers will be working in the health & safety department as an apprentice SHEQ advisor.

A ninth apprentice and trainee site manager will be starting in October after impressing the team in Washington with her work ethic and hard work when she completed work experience with them earlier in 2023.

Social value manager Laura Bains said: “Apprentices are an invaluable addition to the business, and more often than not are able to progress their careers within Equans. I’m personally delighted to see eight of our new recruits raring to go and looking forward to starting their career journeys with us.

“To have what will soon be four female apprentices joining the team is also a massive positive. As a business, Equans is committed to encouraging more women into the industry and providing as many opportunities as possible for women as we look towards our workforce being gender balanced.”
