Nicola Benjamin MBA. BSc. ChPP. MAPM, a Chartered Project Professional and Associate at the Built Environment specialist Consultancy Arup, has launched an international business designed to engage, educate and inspire project professionals worldwide. Project Management Global (PMG) ‘took off’ on 01 May 2024, landing in the inboxes of an initial global audience – reaching 15,000 project professionals with ambitious plans to grow subscribers to >100,000 by the end of the year.
Packed with news, views analysis, resources and educational tools PMG is designed for everyone who manages any project in any sector, including individuals starting out in their project management careers, people already working in the profession and those with vast experience of managing major projects on a global scale.
Nicola said: “I launched PMG to support passionate and ambitious project professionals achieve more in their careers. During my 20 years as a project professional (practitioner, trainer and coach) I saw too many of my fellow professional in unfulfilling roles, that left them feeling drained and uncertain of where to go to next. Especially for those project managers who are independent or even working in large corporate organisations, project management can be a lonely and unforgiving environment. I started PMG to change this!”.
“PMG is a platform for personal and professional growth, and I am delighted to have had the opportunity to bring my vision to life with a business that is designed to enrich the working lives of project professionals worldwide. We will do this through the inspiring content that we publish, by highlighting the success stories and by showcasing the achievements of project practitioners and industry leaders, innovators and change-makers. Our aim is to inspire project professionals by showing them what is possible and through sharing and recommending the best skills, processes, tools and resources from across the wide spectrum of project activity. We will support our subscribers to achieve their goals, raise their career aspirations and set people on the way to fulfilling their mission of greatness.”
“Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has helped me on this journey so far and, in particular, Adam Boddison, CEO of the Association for Project Management and his team for their time and advice in launching a product that we know will benefit their 40,000 members, as well as the wider global market of project practitioners.”
With direct access to a database of almost four million project professionals worldwide, PMG is hoping to get a large proportion of these people to join its mission over the next three years.
Nicola, who is Arup’s Project and Programme Management skills lead in the UK, India, Middle East, and Africa and part of UKIMEA’s Rail business, has taken a year’s sabbatical as part of the Arups’s innovative people development programme. Arup, a multinational professional services firm headquartered in London, provides design, engineering, architecture, planning, and advisory services across every aspect of the built environment – including UK and overseas rail.
Nicola concluded: “I can’t thank Arup enough for this amazing opportunity – it is a fantastic business that is forward thinking and innovative in so many ways. Having an extended period of time to spend on something that is not your day job has been fascinating for me, affording the space to think about and do something that I know will really make such a positive difference to people in my profession. Had I had the PMG resources available to me when I was undertaking my various project management roles over the years, my work and I would have been much better for it. And I hope making these resources freely available to others will close the gaps that so many of us see in the existing space.”
