SAEMA launches new Temporary Part 1 Training Course to raise standards across major construction projects

The Specialist Access Engineering and Maintenance Association (SAEMA) has launched the new Temporary Part 1 Training Course, designed to ensure that operatives on using temporary suspended access equipment are fully trained, competent and compliant before they ever arrive on site.

Aimed specifically at principal contractors and major project teams responsible for constructing and maintaining buildings and other structures, the new course ensures that anyone required to use temporary suspended access equipment can do so safely, efficiently and in full compliance with industry standards. This includes façade construction, cleaning, etc.

Delivered through the same innovative digital platform as SAEMA’s acclaimed Permanent Part 1 and Duty Holders’ courses, this latest addition features interactive animations, invigilated testing and secure certification. Successful candidates receive both a digital certificate and virtual card as immediate proof of competence.

The system is managed on behalf of SAEMA by Seddon Management Services, ensuring the integrity, consistency and traceability that contractors and clients demand.

Tony Seddon, Managing Director of Seddon Management Services, said: “This new course reflects the same uncompromising commitment to safety and professionalism that has defined SAEMA’s training suite. Every operative who completes it will arrive on site with a proven understanding of temporary systems, meaning fewer risks, greater efficiency and complete confidence for site managers.”

Kyle Davidson, Chair of SAEMA, added: “Principal contractors have been calling for a consistent, recognised standard for temporary access training…and this course delivers exactly that. It’s a key step in ensuring that everyone working at height on new build projects has the competence and knowledge to do so safely.”

Will Bradshaw, SAEMA Technical Chair, commented: “Functionally, this course uses the same advanced software platform as our other SAEMA training modules, incorporating industry-leading animations and a robust assessment process. It’s built for real-world understanding and practical application on today’s complex construction sites.”

Mark Davison, Past Chair of SAEMA and co-creator of the original SAEMA training concept, said: “When we first introduced the Permanent Part 1 course, our aim was to raise standards across façade access. The launch of the Temporary Part 1 course, alongside our Duty Holders’ programme, completes that vision…giving the industry a complete, coherent framework for competence, from temporary installations through to permanent systems.”

Part 1 is the first of two stages. Users are not fully trained at this stage, however, they are fully prepared for their onsite training (Part 2). This course readies them for what they will face on site as well as helping them to understand the legal framework in which they are working, etc. The recertification period is two years.

With this launch, SAEMA continues to lead the way in training, safety and compliance for the access industry – ensuring that all operatives working on major projects meet the highest standards before setting foot on site.
