Stockport based chartered surveyors and commercial property experts, Fairhurst Buckley, have invested for future growth appointing a new property heavyweight to the boardroom.

John MacMillan (pictured), who moved to Fairhurst Buckley in November 2020 as a new Head of Building Consultancy, has been promoted to Director.

Having started out at neighbouring Derbyshire County Council, John has over 20 years’ experience within the commercial property market across a diverse range of occupiers and property owners. Despite having earned a reputation as a leading commercial property consultant, John is best known for his extensive experience in technical advisory matters including substantial landmark dilapidations claims and pre-acquisition building surveys of individual properties and portfolio transactions up to £50m.

Commenting on his appointment to the board, John explained: “The director appointment provides me with a great platform to play a key role in the future growth and development of the business.

“My director appointment reaffirms the importance of Building Consultancy as a key part of the business and one where we have identified great potential for further growth to add to new recent client gains that include DHL, the RSPB and Monkhouse School wear, part of the Banner Group.

“Throughout my career I’ve been able to be flexible enough to amass great sector experience by moving around and working in businesses of different sizes and types, and in different locations. I’m now eager to set down my roots. My new directorship aligned with our ambition for the business, enables me to lead, develop and grow our Building Consultancy offering to our growing client base”.

Stockport is enjoying a £1 billion programme of development attracting out-of-town investors and creating a more modern urban offering, the catalyst that in March 2020 drove Fairhurst Estates and Buckley Commercial to merge; added John: “It’s an exciting time, I don’t believe there has ever been a better time to be part of Stockport’s burgeoning property sector.”

Nigel Blyth, Managing Director, is equally enthusiastic about John’s directorship: “John’s appointment allows us to further unlock our presence and take advantage of the upsurge in the local market whilst continuing to grow our national client base.

“His wealth of knowledge and expertise in commercial property and building surveying gives us the edge we are looking for as we continue to cement our position as the most respected, experienced and trusted property consultancy in South Manchester.”

Following the merger, Fairhurst Buckley have become the largest, independent surveying and agency practice in Stockport and across South Manchester.

The company has also been strengthening their senior management team as well as growing the agency side of the business: Jason Burke, Kevin Welsby and Luke Atkinson have been appointed as Associate Directors and Mark Wilkinson has joined the agency team, bringing with him 15 years of local real estate experience.

Commenting on the further promotions, Nigel added: “Jay, Kevin and Luke have been an integral part of the merger as part of the management team. Their help and commitment have been invaluable in helping us achieve everything that we have done in the last 2 years and as we move forward in the realisation of our vision.”
