Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS) alongside Westminster City Council were awarded Best Carbon Zero initiative at the National Housing and Maintenance Awards (NHMF) last week.
The awards recognise success and ingenuity within the housing sector, with MSPS and Westminster City Council taking home an award for the delivery of their bespoke retrofit programme, including an energy saving show home retrofitted with innovative Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
The programme aims to maximise take up of retrofit works by giving residents a ‘real life’ experience of the benefits, and assurance about what’s involved, along with supporting residents in fuel poverty by improving the energy performance of their homes.
Judges commended the project for “demonstrating technology combined with a customer led approach.”

Anthony Jones, Head of Sustainability, Westminster City Council said: “Improving the energy efficiency of homes across Westminster is key to tackling the twin challenges of the climate emergency and the cost-of-living crisis. Working with Morgan Sindall Property Services on the energy saving show home is just the start of the council’s plan to reach net zero by 2040 and supporting residents in need at the same time. The project shows what can be done by taking a holistic approach to retrofit works.”
Retrofitting homes will help the council achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, saving 2.5 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.
