Birmingham City University (BCU), one of the largest and most diverse universities in the UK, has appointed Inviron as Principal Contractor to supply and install fourteen Daikin Inverter Air Conditioning units into several servers and hubs within their Curzon Building.
Opened in 2015, the Curzon Building is home to many sectors of BCU including the faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences; the School of English; the University’s main library; the Student’s Union; and the restored Victorian pub, the Eagle and Ball. Taking place over a timescale of ten weeks, Inviron will use its technical expertise to provide enhanced air quality to BCU students, staff and visitors.
Inviron will continue to provide technical facilities management for three other buildings within BCU; Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the state-of-the-art £57 million teaching facility, opened in 2017 – the first of its kind; Millennium Point – home to the £4 million purpose-built School of Acting, with a fully operational lighting rig and quadraphonic sound system; and the newly formed £70 million STEAM house – home to the School of Computing and Digital Technology.

Being awarded this project will not only provide a solution to a cooling issue BCU have been experiencing, but it will also allow us the platform to showcase our expertise in the project field which will provide BCU with much comfort and trust to work with us on more projects throughout 2023.”
David Phillips (BCU Mechanical Engineer) added, “Inviron has been able to offer us a suitable solution to our Secondary cooling problem within the Data rooms of our Curzon building. This project has successfully commenced and is on schedule for both budget and completion. Curzon is a complex fully occupied building and Inviron has done a fantastic job of executing plans thus far. The real give away is that a lot of the building users when told have expressed the comment of “we didn’t know they were there”. This is always a good indicator of a well-run Project.”
