Following the coronation this weekend, security account manager Tom Ward, Anabas, talks about the steps that security professionals in London need to be taking to ensure safety for all those involved.
It is expected that there will be more than 6,000 armed services personnel at the King’s Coronation event in London, all deployed to ensure maximum security for leaders and heads of state from around the world. That’s not to mention the number of Metropolitan police who will be on hand to maintain order and security among the public, too.
Like previous high-profile events such as the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth, the King’s Coronation will present heightened risks and issues that corporate security teams in London should have front of mind.
Preparing for security incidents over the Coronation weekend
The UK’s police will be tightening up security efforts in anticipation of a range of potential risks – including terrorism and other activism that may disrupt the celebrations of the day. These will all be rehearsed, and all possible scenarios planned to the finest of detail.
Corporate security teams located at businesses in the City should therefore start thinking about the effects any risks could have in their business’ workplaces, too. Preparing now allows for the swift resolution of any security incidents that may occur.
Consider if you have enough capacity to deal with any issues. It may be that your current security operation needs further support over such a busy period. After all, thousands of people will be attending the Coronation event and London will be busier than ever over the bank holiday weekend.
Remaining vigilant
As with all high-profile events, security professionals and the wider team in your workplace should remain vigilant and agile enough to identify and deal with any security risks that may arise.
Preparation is just one way to remain vigilant, but a wider education and awareness exercise for your staff on how to identify, prevent and deal with security threats, which will probably extend before and after the Coronation itself, can be equally as valuable as having additional feet on the ground.
