Tarem Services, the social enterprise cleaning company tackling in-work poverty and food insecurity, has extended its Mobile Foodbank initiative to Woolwich for the first time, working in partnership with Brookhill Children’s Centre.
On Thursday 31 July 2025, the Woolwich distribution supported 50 families, including three emergency walk-ins, reaching 186 individuals (80 adults and 106 children). With child poverty rates in Greenwich among the highest in London, the high number of children served underlines the urgent need for family-focused food support in the borough.
The initiative was made possible through the social value commitments of Tarem Services’ Greenwich-based clients, Christ Church C of E Primary School and Notre Dame Catholic Primary School, showing how local partnerships can deliver real community impact.
The Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Linda Bird, attended the event and praised the collaborative effort:
“I would like to thank Tarem Services for this amazing initiative. I also warmly welcome this company, based in Brockley, to the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Thank you to all the staff at Brookhill Children’s Centre for everything you do to support our families in so many ways. And thank you again to Tarem Services for reaching out to us.”
Hazel Smith, Home-Start Greenwich, Community Projects and Events Manager, added:
“This distribution was a huge success. It’s about more than just providing essentials – it’s about connecting families with the support they need to thrive. We look forward to continuing this work together with Tarem Services to support the well-being of our local families.”
Since its inception, Tarem Services’ Mobile Foodbank initiative has now supported over 1,300 individuals, bringing essentials directly to communities affected by rising living costs in the areas served. The Woolwich distribution marks a significant step in expanding the reach of the initiative to families most in need.
