Pendrich Height Services, part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), has completed a significant project to strengthen and preserve a 110-metre-high industrial chimney stack.
Using temporary cradle access platforms, Pendrich’s expert team carried out extensive concrete repairs to the chimney windshield, ensuring the structural integrity of this major industrial feature.
As part of the works, the team also repainted the distinctive black “smokeband” at the chimney’s top. This section plays a vital role in the chimney’s long-term performance. Constantly exposed to gas attack from downdrafts, the smokeband coating helps absorb emissions, reduce visible staining, and shield the surface from corrosion and further deterioration.
Pendrich’s work underscores a key principle of chimney maintenance — prevention is always better, and more economical, than cure. Regular inspection, painting and protection at the chimney top can prevent serious structural issues and avoid the significant cost of dismantling and rebuilding.
