Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG), through its constituent business Pendrich Height Services, has completed a programme of specialist building maintenance works at Glasgow City Chambers.
Glasgow City Chambers, located on the eastern side of George Square, has served as the headquarters of Glasgow City Council since 1996, continuing a civic function that dates back to 1889. The building is Category A listed and is widely recognised as one of the city’s most significant architectural landmarks.
Constructed in the Beaux-Arts style, the City Chambers features extensive Renaissance and Italianate detailing, reflecting the industrial prosperity of Glasgow at the time of its construction. The building has also been used as a filming location for a number of films and television productions, including Outlander.
Pendrich’s specialist team undertook vegetation removal and masonry repointing works using steeplejack and industrial rope access techniques. These methods enabled safe and effective access to high-level and sensitive areas of the façade, while minimising disruption and preserving the building’s visual integrity.
Industrial rope access is increasingly used on complex and heritage structures due to its flexibility and low-impact nature. Unlike traditional access methods, it allows works to be carried out without extensive scaffolding, enabling buildings to remain operational and reducing visual intrusion — a critical consideration for listed assets and prominent public buildings.
PTSG provides a wide range of specialist services to the built environment, including access and safety, electrical services, façade maintenance, fire solutions and water treatment. Through Pendrich Height Services, the Group supports the inspection, repair and maintenance of structures across multiple sectors, including civic, commercial and heritage buildings.
