PTSG Completes Major Summer Fire Safety Programme at Russell Group University

PTSG, through its specialist fire solutions business Neo, has completed a major programme of fire door replacement and fire stopping works at a Russell Group university in the North of England, delivered within a tightly controlled summer refurbishment period.

The programme was carried out while student accommodation blocks were unoccupied, allowing essential life-safety works to be completed ahead of the new academic year. The restricted timeframe required detailed planning, precise sequencing and close coordination, with Neo working alongside multiple contractors delivering concurrent refurbishment and compliance projects across the estate.

Additional complexity was presented by the nature of the university’s buildings, many of which date back to the 1960s and were constructed using the CLASP system. These structures incorporated asbestos-containing materials, extensive column layouts and wind-bracing elements, requiring comprehensive surveys, robust permit-to-work procedures and close collaboration with licensed asbestos contractors to ensure safe delivery.

A large number of fire doors were installed across multiple accommodation blocks within the compressed programme. All installations were completed by FIRAS- and BM Trada-certified teams and carried out in strict accordance with manufacturer guidance and third-party certification requirements, ensuring consistent compliance throughout the estate.

Alongside the door replacement programme, Neo delivered extensive fire stopping works to maintain compartmentation across both accommodation and teaching buildings. This involved sealing a wide range of mechanical, electrical and IT service penetrations within complex structural environments, often requiring bespoke, tested solutions installed to exacting standards.

Digital quality assurance processes were embedded throughout the programme, providing a clear and auditable record of every fire door and fire stopping installation.
