Survey aims to assess business preparation for Net Zero 2050

Power solutions provider Critical Power Supplies (CPS) has announced plans to launch a survey to understand how prepared UK businesses are for the ambitious goal of Net Zero 2050.

The UK government has pledged to completely cut carbon emissions from 1990 levels by 2050, and CPS aims to uncover how well businesses are equipped to meet this challenge while ensuring they have robust energy plans for the future.

To succeed, however, the UK requires an unprecedented level of cooperation and transformation across business and industry. According to 2023 research by EY, 80% of UK listed firms said they have committed to becoming Net Zero by 2050, yet 95% have not disclosed any detailed actionable transition plans.

With more extreme weather temperatures and events expected in the coming years, pressure is also growing on businesses to handle the inevitable increases in energy supply disruptions while switching to more environmentally friendly energy sources.

The survey will be designed to ask organisations if they have a net zero plan, how they are aligning their energy consumption with targets and whether they are aware of the government incentives and grants available to them. The research will also ascertain how prepared businesses are to handle potential energy supply disruptions and shortages, the challenges they face in transitioning to renewable energy sources, and the role technology plays in the efficiency and reliability of their backup power solutions.

Chief executive officer Jason Koffler said: “Net Zero 2050 is the biggest challenge facing humanity. Success is safeguarding the planet for future generations, and this will depend on governments and industry working together to transition to a zero-carbon economy now. With climate change expected to get worse, it’s also vital that organisations have a sufficient energy resilience strategy in place to shield their Net Zero plans and ensure business continuity, as the grid is put under more strain.  As an industry, we need to understand the expectations, needs and challenges of businesses in these areas.”

The CPS Net Zero 2050 survey will be open until 23 October. Respondents will receive a free copy of the report featuring the results in November.   To take part, contributors are invited to visit:   https://survey.zohopublic.eu/zs/ifB8eQ
