As the FM sector marked National Apprenticeship Week, the Building Engineering Services Association called on employers to pledge taking on more than one apprentice.

It comes as the industry struggles to cope with a rapidly ageing workforce which is widening the skills gap.

One of the companies combatting this gap is Mitie, which has passed the ยฃ1 million milestone for its Apprenticeship levy, supporting more than 70 apprentices in SMEs across the country.

Fresh food provider Bakkavor also sent out a call for 60 individuals to take part in its apprenticeship programme this year.


Elsewhere in catering, Sodexo has released a report demonstrating the positive impact it has made on levelling up and how it can improve in the future.

The report showed Sodexoโ€™s approach to its social value strategy is working.


In Business, Corps Security has won a contract with Zurich โ€“ covering its guarding services across the insurerโ€™s UK portfolio.

The three-year deal will have a strong focus on social value and sustainability.

PTSG has announced it is providing specialist electrical services to help protect a National Heritage List abbey in Cambridgeshire.

The country house, which has history back to the 13th Century, will have a lightning protection system put in place.


And lastly, in training, SAEMA celebrated 500 people using its training and testing platform since it was launched in 2020.

The online platform has a built in, invigilated post training examination system which helps to ensure a consistent level of compliance across the sector.
