Angel Hill Food Co executive chef Matt Vernon has been awarded the People Development Award at the Contract Catering Awards.
This was in recognition of his work with the Angel Hill Food Co Production Chef apprenticeship scheme, where he has successfully mentored apprentices through their learning journey.
His operational experience and role on the Executive Chef team, gave him an understanding of the day-to-day challenges the teams face, meaning he could ensure the training programme is relatable and relevant.
Angel Hill Food Co apprentice Kibrewosen Bereket said: “I was lucky to have Matt as my tutor as he is very patient and a lot of help. Having a chef as my tutor really made a difference as he understood my job and how my training would work in real life.”
It was the 11th year for the Contract Catering Awards, which are judged by a team of industry peers and professionals. The winners were announced at a gala dinner on 27March at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London Tower Bridge.
Angel Hill Food Co catering managing director Henry Watts said: “We are incredibly proud of Matt. His passion, enthusiasm, commitment, knowledge and expertise is highly valued by everyone in the business and he instils these qualities in our apprentices and enables us to develop our chefs of the future.
“His positive attitude is massively admired throughout the organisation – he’s a huge asset to the L&D team and the wider business. Congratulations Matt.”
