One Retail strengthens offer at Queen Alexandra Hospital

One Retail, Compass Group UK & Ireland’s retail sector, is working with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) at Queen Alexandra Hospital, to deliver significant improvements and widen its retail offer.

The Queen Alexandra Hospital is a large NHS hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

Compass has an established, long-term relationship with the hospital. The two-year project will see the One Retail team work with Noviniti to develop the main entrance, creating an extension which will house a new lecture theatre and retail space.

The development of the main entrance will also include a new Changing Places facility, one of three that are planned for the future development around the site – providing accessible toilets and changing space. To expand the retail offer, a new Marks and Spencer Food and The Stock Shop will open, plus a new Costa store. This is in addition to an existing Costa Coffee and Amigo shop – providing choice and quality to everyone at the hospital.

Mark Orchard, Chief Financial Officer at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust said: “This is a fantastic new development which will help improve the experience of those visiting our hospital site.

“This is another step in a number of significant improvements including improved green spaces around the site. These plans will help us continue to deliver high quality services in efficient, well-maintained and well-designed buildings.”

Andrew Jones, One Retail, Managing Director commented: “Having worked at the hospital for a number of years, we’re now excited to deliver expanded retail services at the hospital, to help patients, staff and visitors. The new front entrance will help to provide a new and warm welcome to all.”

Marc Hastings, Chief Executive Officer of Noviniti commented: “We are delighted and proud to have been appointed as the Trust’s development partner for the Main and North Entrance projects. Together, these schemes will deliver a combination of dedicated public space, retail shops and new Trust facilities, enhancing the hospital experience for all in Portsmouth.”
