Sodexoโ€™s government business has been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to manage HMP Lowdham Grange in Nottinghamshire following a competitive tender process.

The new contract has an estimated value of ยฃ264 million over a ten-year term, and the MoJ has the option to extend for a further two one-year terms.

The contract commences on 16 February 2023 and will see Sodexo take responsibility for nearly 900 male prisoners and 500 staff at the category B prison.

Elsewhere, and The Churchill Group has announced that its contract with the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has not only been renewed for the Manchester premises, but also extended to its London office as well.

The PHSO helps people with complaints that have not been resolved by the NHS or the UK government departments and other public organisations. Churchill began its partnership with the PHSO in 2018 at its head office in Manchester, and this new contract extends to the PHSOโ€™s secondary workplace.


Kier Places has secured its place on the ยฃ600m YORbuild3 Minor Works framework, having been appointed on all five sub-regional frameworks for Lot 2, which covers new build and refurbishment projects valued between ยฃ1m-ยฃ4m.

Covering four years, it is available to local authorities and other public and third sector organisations across the Yorkshire and Humber region, the North East, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire.

The fifth-generation framework puts greater emphasis on Modern Methods of Construction and offsite solutions, carbon reduction and a more enhanced sustainability offer.


And finally, do you know exactly how much have businesses paid out due to commercial fly-tipping in recent years? 

A new study from sustainable waste management experts, Envirovue, delves into the number of commercial fly-tipping fines handed out in the past three years and the cost to businesses. 

The study reveals that businesses within these local authorities paid out a shocking total of just under ยฃ3 million between 2019 and 2022, and the City of Westminster takes the top spot for the racking up the biggest cost (ยฃ986,400) with a staggering 2,466 commercial fly-tipping fines being handed out to businesses within this period.
