Wates Group, the one of the leading privately-owned construction, development and property services in the UK, has announced it has been appointed by leading UK social enterprise, Places for People, to upgrade thousands of homes across the central and north east as part of a £104m major works investment framework.
The national programme is managed through six regions, with Wates the only contractor to manage two regions. Its teams will deliver a range of improvements such as new kitchens, doors, and windows as well as exterior painting.
During the four-year contract, more than £40m will be invested across its regions.
Wates Group will be recruiting 84 full-time roles and 42 apprentices and will provide over 1,000 training places and 252 work placements.
Stewart Reid, Managing Director of the Central and North maintenance division for Wates Group, said:
“We are very proud to be growing our portfolio in the central and north regions through our work with Places for People. Working with our partners across the framework, we are committed to providing safe, secure, comfortable, and efficient homes.”
Mark Arnold, Director of Asset Strategy and Investment for Places for People, said:
“We are looking forward to working alongside Wates. This programme is a response to our customers’ needs, exceeding regulatory requirements and delivering sustainable homes and communities.”
As part of Wates Group’s commitment to generating social value for communities, the company will be donating materials and time for community refurbishment projects, running DIY workshops for tenants and donating to local good causes. In 2022, it generated over £163m in social value for the communities in which its people work.
