Litenet recently worked with Volkswagen on a full upgrade of their BMS system.
Volkswagen were already part way through the project and needed to address the connectivity issue fast. They needed a company that was familiar with fibre splicing and used to working in an environment that consisted of warehousing, office space and car workshops with lots of vehicle movement. They also needed a company that had the specialist equipment required to pull cables through long stretches of underground ducting beneath a car park, and the correct certification to use high level access platforms.
Volkswagen approached Litenet because they are equipped with the specialist tools and experience needed for the project. Litenet also had the correct certification and experience for using the customer’s high level access equipment. That, coupled with their technical knowledge of the data network equipment they were supplying, meant they were able to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for the whole scope of work.
Volkswagen were particularly pleased with Litenet’s service as being able to centrally manage all of their HVAC systems brought about cost savings and environmental improvements. The use of smart controls rather than simple timers and thermostats means that the systems now work more efficiently and are only powered when required. All of this needs a reliable and capable data network in order to integrate with the central management system, which is where Litenet put their expertise to use.
The TP-Link Omada’s central management capability meant that all network devices can be remotely monitored and configured, allowing Litenet to control security, spot issues and support the BMS network more efficiently.
Following on from this VW have asked Litenet to carry out a full audit of the fibre infrastructure around their other UK sites to make sure it is compliant with their specific requirements.
The BMS project was intended to cover two separate issues – to replace ageing equipment and to use technology to improve their heating and ventilation efficiency. Litenet’s fibre solution contributed to this effort by allowing for easy future expansion, reduced number of site visits for configuration changes (thus saving diesel and time) and a reduction in the amount of data network devices that needed to be deployed.
