PTSG launches game-changing fire extinguisher

On Thursday 13 March, Trinity Fire & Security (Trinity) – part of Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) – launches the unique MPF Fire Extinguisher, which is set to transform the fire services industry.

Fire Suppression specialists from Trinity worked in close collaboration with LifeSafe Technologies over an 18-month period to develop the MPF (multi-purpose fluid) unit, which has the capability of extinguishing virtually all of the different types of fires that occur in all sorts of environments – including Lithium-ion battery fires, which until now, have been very difficult to deal with.

The MPF will take the place of multiple types of extinguishers, each of which is limited to the type of fire they are tested against and certified to extinguish. This offers a number of clear advantages for organisations working in many different industry sectors, not to mention the environmental benefits:

It is the only product of its kind to be able to address the broad range of fire types, including Lithium-ion battery fires, and fully conform with the British Approvals for Fire Equipment (BAFE).

Relatively few people are trained in using fire extinguishers. In the stress of a fire, people panic and use the wrong unit – or they don’t use one at all as they lack the confidence. The MPF is the only unit needed in many
environments, eliminating confusion over which extinguisher to use.

With the ban on the PFOA foam extinguisher on July 25 2025 and increasing pressure on the PFAS, many foam extinguishers will need to be replaced due to environmental and health issues.

As the Trinity MPF replaces most portables, this vastly reduces costs as well as reducing maintenance and management time.

Unlike standard portable units it can work at temperatures as low as -15C, as tested by the Technical Inspection Association.

As the MPF reduces CO2 impact through decreased levels of manufacturing and transportation, being the only unit required in many cases, it will help organisations to meet their sustainability targets.

Richard Castle-Smith, Head of Fire Suppression at Trinity, said: “In the development of the MPF Fire Extinguisher alongside LifeSafe Technologies, we conducted many tests, some of which were filmed. They make compelling viewing, demonstrating the ease and speed with which fires are controlled and extinguished -– even with a small amount of the multi-purpose fluid.”

The fluid is patented and works by creating an endothermic reaction absorbing the energy that is given off from a fire as heat, effectively acting as a super coolant. This is known as EndoShield Performance and takes one side of the fire triangle away. In addition, the second process, Exo-Suppression, suppresses the oxygen at a molecular level, to prevent re-ignition. With two sides of the fire triangle taken away, the fire cannot re-ignite.

Trinity is the largest constituent company of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd – which is the largest of the five business divisions of PTSG. With nine offices throughout the UK, Trinity delivers a wide portfolio of fire, life safety and security solutions to organisations in all sectors and locations.

LifeSafe Technologies delivers peace of mind through its many innovative fire safety products. Its focus is on stopping the small fires from becoming bigger ones but can also control them when they are big. Customers rely on LifeSafe products to protect them when they need it most.

The unique Trinity MPF fire extinguisher has been developed to transform how organisations deal with fires and improve their safety. It is the simplest and most effective single unit for tacking virtually all fire types.

“Having a product that has been certified by BSI as capable of suppressing lithium-ion battery thermal runaway, as well as being an effective fire-fighting medium for most other types of fire, is a significant step forward for manual fire extinguisher usage in the industrial and commercial sectors, as well as for personal use.” Adrian J Simmonds C.Eng MIET, Practice Leader – Property Risk Solutions – QBE European Operations
