Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has been appointed to deliver a comprehensive earthing and lightning protection package for a new data centre in Newport, South Wales.
The facility is being developed by Vantage Data Centres, a US-based operator that has secured planning approval for the site — a project set to elevate Newport from one of the UK’s key data centre locations to a major European hub.
The UK’s data centre sector is experiencing rapid expansion, with almost 100 new facilities expected to be developed in the next five years — an increase of around 20%. This growth is being driven by rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and other digital services. While London and the South East remain central to this trend, significant projects are also under way in Wales, Scotland and Greater Manchester.
Under the new contract, engineers from PTSG’s Lightning Protection Installations Division will design and install a site-wide lightning protection system to safeguard the facility and its infrastructure.
