FASET Member Supports Humanitarian Effort in Ukraine

FASET has shared a powerful example of how industry expertise and responsible practice can extend far beyond the workplace.

Gareth Sever, General Manager of SDM Safety Netting & Scaffold Ltd – a valued FASET member – recently arranged for a batch of end-of-life safety nets to be repurposed in support of humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

After being removed from operational service and stripped of all labels, identification markings and border cords, the nets were donated to a group assisting with defence measures in the city of Kherson.

Gareth later received the following message:

“Your nets have been used in Kherson, which is a city on the bank of the Dnieper River. Russians are constantly attacking it with drones from the other side of the river and your nets have been installed to catch the drones and are worth their weight in gold.”

While originally designed to protect workers at height, these nets have found an unexpected second life protecting communities under threat.

This act reflects not only generosity, but also professionalism. By ensuring the nets were clearly removed from certified operational use before donation, SDM demonstrated continued commitment to safety, responsibility and best practice – values that sit at the heart of FASET membership.

FASET membership signals a dedication to high standards of workmanship, compliance and safety. Stories like this also show the wider character of our industry – practical, resourceful and willing to step forward when it matters.

FASET commends Gareth and the team at SDM Safety Netting & Scaffold Ltd for their thoughtful and impactful contribution.
