Peartree Cleaning Expands Health and Safety Capability with In House IOSH Training

Peartree Cleaning has strengthened its workplace safety programme by introducing licensed IOSH training delivered internally for supervisors and team leaders across the business.

The company, which provides cleaning services throughout the UK, said the move will support more consistent and practical health and safety training while embedding stronger risk management practices into day to day operations.

IOSH, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, is the chartered professional body for workplace health and safety and is widely recognised for promoting higher standards across UK industries.

By securing a licence to deliver IOSH training in house, Peartree can provide structured training directly tailored to the operational realities of the cleaning sector while reducing reliance on external providers.

Focus on operational safety in live environments

The programme is particularly relevant to cleaning operations, where teams often work in occupied buildings and high footfall environments while managing risks linked to slips and trips, manual handling, lone working, chemicals and equipment use.

Through the IOSH Managing Safely programme, supervisors and team leaders receive practical training designed to help them identify hazards, implement safe systems of work and manage incidents effectively on site.

Since launching the initiative in November 2022, Peartree has delivered five IOSH Managing Safely courses, including three at client locations and two at its Brentwood head office.

A total of 31 employees have completed the training programme, with all participants successfully passing both the written assessment and practical risk assessment project.

The company plans to deliver another IOSH Managing Safely course within the next six months and is preparing to introduce one day refresher training sessions for colleagues who have already completed the programme.

Supporting client confidence and mobilisation

Peartree said the training programme also strengthens client assurance by ensuring site teams are led by managers with recognised health and safety qualifications and practical operational awareness.

The company believes this approach will support faster mobilisation on both new and existing contracts by ensuring supervisors understand reporting procedures, site expectations and risk management processes from the outset.

Paul Reilly, Health and Safety Manager at Peartree Cleaning, said workplace safety must remain central to service delivery.

“Health and safety is not a back office function, it is part of service delivery every day,” he said.

“Our teams work in live environments, often alongside our clients’ employees, visitors and building users, so it is vital that our supervisors and team leaders have the knowledge and confidence to manage risk on the ground.”

Reilly added that internal delivery provides greater consistency and long term development opportunities.

“Being licensed to deliver IOSH training in house means we can give our people recognised training that is practical, relevant and consistent,” he said.

“It helps our teams hit the ground running, gives clients confidence in the way we operate, and supports a culture where safety is understood, owned and acted on at every level.”

The initiative also allows the business to reduce external training costs and scheduling pressures while maintaining greater control over the quality and timing of training delivery.

Peartree said the programme forms part of its wider commitment to raising operational standards across the cleaning sector through investment in workforce development, safer workplaces and consistent service delivery.
