Edwin James Group Accredited as Real Living Wage Employer

Edwin James Group has joined almost 9,000 responsible employers across the UK by becoming accredited as a Living Wage Employer.  Joining the movement drives cultural change and social value and helps people enjoy a more sustainable future.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that want to ensure their staff, and regular third-party contracted staff, earn a wage they can live on.

The Living Wage applies to anyone aged 18 years or over and is the only minimum national wage rate calculated on the cost of living and determined by an independent public consultation.  Currently the Living Wage pays more than the government’s National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage.

The Living Wage Movement began in 2001 when the East London Community Organisation (now part of Citizens UK), brought together churches, mosques, schools and other local institutions to talk about the issues affecting their communities.  Since then nearly 300,000 people have had their wages uplifted as a direct result of the Living Wage movement.

Edwin James Group join other leading organisations such as Google, HSBC, IKEA, Scottish Government and local authorities, the NHS, further education and local government, retail and social enterprises and hundreds of SMEs.  Collectively, these employers have put over £1 billion into the pockets of workers across the UK since the Living Wage campaign began.
