Mitie has been named as a Top 50 Employer of Veterans for the third consecutive year by Great British Employers of Veterans, for its ongoing commitment to supporting veterans, service leavers, reservists and military families.
Recognising the adaptability and operational expertise the Armed Forces community brings, Mitie employs more than 1,100 veterans and reservists across its operations, recruiting over 500 veterans in the past year alone.
Recruitment is supported through Mitie’s Armed Forces Career Portal which helps identify suitable job roles, hiring practices that recognise Armed Forces connections at the application stage and events with the Government’s Career Transition Partnership.
Mitie’s Military Network, with around 1,400 members, plays a central role in building a supportive internal community among colleagues by providing mentoring, peer support, awareness and advocacy across the organisation. Through initiatives, such as regular military coffee mornings, veterans, reservists, families of those in the Armed Forces and colleagues have space to connect and share experiences.
This is complemented by forces-friendly policies, including two weeks of additional paid leave for reservists, tailored support for military families, such as relocation assistance and flexibility during deployment, the Military Buddy Scheme and the Inclusion Allies programme.
Building on this, Mitie will be launching a Guaranteed Interview Scheme and dedicated Armed Forces programme to offer service leavers rotational experience across multiple business areas, enabling them to build a broad understanding of the organisation before selecting a long-term career pathway.
Mitie’s approach is underpinned by its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and its ERS Gold Status, the Ministry of Defence’s highest recognition for employers who demonstrate outstanding support for the Armed Forces community.
Mark Caskey, Managing Director Projects and Executive Sponsor of Mitie Military Network, said: “Being recognised as a Top 50 Employer of Veterans for a third consecutive year reflects the long-standing commitment we’ve made to supporting the Armed Forces community. Veterans, service leavers and reservists bring a wealth of experience, and we are proud to support them in building long-term, fulfilling careers at Mitie.”
Tommy Marley, a former member of the Armed Forces and Mitie Military Network Lead, said: “After more than 15 years with the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the Royal Military Police, I joined Mitie having worked as a civilian in the security sector. I immediately recognised the impact of Mitie’s Military Network and the strong, visible community we create together for veterans, reservists and their families. Mitie actively champions the unique skills and experience of Armed Forces colleagues, supporting us into roles where we feel valued.”
