Mitie Secures Engineering and Energy Services Contract with AstraZeneca

Mitie has secured a new contract with AstraZeneca to deliver engineering and energy services at the pharmaceutical company’s Macclesfield campus in Cheshire.

The site is one of AstraZeneca’s major UK manufacturing, research and technology facilities and operates within a highly regulated and safety critical environment.

Under the agreement, Mitie will provide a range of engineering services including mechanical and electrical maintenance, reactive engineering support and energy management and optimisation.

The contract builds on Mitie’s experience operating within complex pharmaceutical manufacturing environments where equipment reliability and operational continuity are critical.

Focus on energy performance and carbon visibility

As part of the partnership, Mitie will support AstraZeneca in improving visibility of energy use and associated carbon emissions across the Macclesfield campus.

The company will use its Orbit platform, Mitie’s energy management and analytics system, to continuously monitor site performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements and energy optimisation.

Mitie said the data driven approach will help support both operational resilience and longer term sustainability goals across the facility.

Investment in apprenticeships and community initiatives

Alongside technical delivery, the contract includes a commitment to workforce development and community engagement.

Mitie plans to introduce new apprenticeships and provide training and mentoring opportunities as part of the partnership. The company has also committed more than 1,300 volunteering hours annually to support community, education and environmental initiatives delivered in collaboration with AstraZeneca.

Sam White, Managing Director of Technical Services at Mitie, said the agreement reflects the company’s combined focus on operational performance and sustainability.

“We’re proud to bring our engineering expertise and energy insight to deliver services for AstraZeneca that support operational reliability and sustainability, both now and into the future,” he said.

“By investing in skills, apprenticeships and community initiatives, this partnership will support a resilient, future ready workforce at the Macclesfield campus.”
