Zest Recycle is delighted to announce that it has successfully secured the recycling and waste management services contract for Nexus, a public transport operator in the North East of England for the Tyne & Wear Metro and Shields Ferry services.
Nexus’ mission is to improve the quality of life and fortunes of everyone in Tyne and Wear, by creating better transport networks, making public transport great for the environment, economy, and communities in North East England.
Zest Recycle secured the contract with Nexus through a competitive tender process. The aim of the tender process was to appoint a contractor to help the organisation reduce the environmental impact of its operations, particularly around reducing the amount of waste generated, and increasing the proportion of waste that is reused and recycled.
As part of the tender process, Zest Recycle was able to demonstrate how its model, approach, and ethos to managing recycling and waste contracts supported the aims and aspirations of Nexus. This was particularly evident in areas such as our use of local SMEs, our emphasis on identifying opportunities for source segregation of recyclables and more difficult to recycle waste streams, and our approach to delivering a zero waste to landfill solution by applying the principles of the Waste Hierarchy.
Zest Recycle will be managing the full spectrum of waste as part of the contract, from general waste and dry mixed recycling, through to hazardous, and confidential waste streams, across multiple locations.
Roland Archer, Sales Director, Zest Recycle, said: “Our partnership approach to managing our client’s waste and resource management needs was a key factor in securing this contract and we are looking forward to supporting Nexus in their plans to provide a greener and more sustainable transport service for their customers across Tyne and Wear. The hard work starts here ensuring a seamless mobilisation of services and implementing the plans and strategies to deliver continuous improvement across the contract.”
James Parkinson, Metro Head of Contracts and Commercial, Nexus, said: “Nexus produces a wide variety of waste streams and we were seeking a one-stop-shop solution to manage these, whilst also reducing the environmental impact of our operations. We’re looking forward to working with Zest Recycle to deliver the improvements in our environmental performance.”
