Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has secured a new contract to provide passive fire protection services at a major science and technology facility in Blackley, Manchester.
The project, delivered through Neo Property Services (Neo), will support a former Imperial Chemical Industries research and production centre that now operates as a high-value, specialist laboratory environment.
Engineers from Neo will undertake complex passive fire protection work in one of the region’s most technically demanding facilities. The project presents several challenges, including:
- Specialist laboratory conditions: The site contains extensive mechanical, electrical and lab-specific service penetrations – including fume extraction and gas lines – all of which require precise fire-stopping to tested detail.
- Sensitive, high-value research environment: Works must be completed without affecting ongoing research or disturbing tightly controlled environmental conditions.
- Strict compliance requirements: Laboratory settings require enhanced considerations such as chemical resistance, airtightness and compatibility with cleanroom standards.
- Non-standard building geometry: The tower’s unique structure and the retrofit of modern lab facilities introduce complex access routes and irregular service penetrations.
- Multi-stakeholder coordination: Designers, M&E contractors and safety teams all require assurance that fire protection measures meet both building regulations and industry-specific standards.
As part of PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd – the Group’s largest division – Neo brings extensive experience in stakeholder collaboration, ensuring that passive fire measures integrate seamlessly within highly regulated environments.
PTSG Fire Solutions Ltd provides a comprehensive suite of passive fire services, including fire doors, fire-rated glazing, fire curtains and cavity barriers, fire stopping, compartmentation, damper testing and ventilation cleaning.
The contract further strengthens PTSG’s position as a leading provider of compliant, safety-critical fire protection services across complex and specialist facilities nationwide.
