Premier Technical Services Group Ltd (PTSG) has returned to one of the UK’s most recognisable landmarks to carry out specialist structural works at Blackpool Tower. The project was delivered through Pendrich Height Services, PTSG’s specialist steeplejack and high-level repairs business.
Blackpool Tower, inspired by the Eiffel Tower and opened in 1894, remains a major visitor attraction, drawing around 650,000 visitors each year. At 518 feet (158 metres) tall and now 131 years old, it is the only Grade I listed building in Blackpool and is widely celebrated as an example of advanced Victorian engineering.
Pendrich has a long-standing relationship with the structure, having first been appointed in 2018 as principal contractor to undertake external structural repairs and planned maintenance. All works were carried out under heritage oversight, requiring like-for-like replacement of components to preserve the tower’s original design.
In the latest phase, Pendrich fabricated a series of bespoke steel components, including cast-iron spheres produced to replicate the originals. A specialist team was deployed to install the new elements as part of ongoing maintenance to safeguard the tower’s structural integrity.
The work reinforces PTSG’s position as a leading provider of high-level specialist services on complex, historic and safety-critical structures across the UK.
