New Pig Europe Launches Floor Safety Awareness Month to Help Tackle the Hidden cost of Workplace Slips, Trips and Falls

NEW PIG Europe, has launched Floor Safety Awareness Month to help workplaces identify and control floor safety risks caused by leaks, drips, spills and wet surfaces.

The campaign comes as data from the Health & Safety Executive shows that workplace injuries led to 4.4 million working days lost in Great Britain in 2024/25 (Health and Safety Executive, 2025)1, while the total annual economic cost of workplace injuries stood at £6.5 billion in 2023/24 (HSE, 2025)2. According to training and eLearning provider iHasco’s 2026 UK Workplace Risk Index, construction and retail were identified as the riskiest industries overall, with manufacturing also among the sectors highlighted as a concern³.

To help address the issue, New Pig has launched its inaugural Floor Safety Awareness Month campaign. The campaign aims to give employers and employees practical knowledge to help identify and control common floor safety risks — in particular, slips, trips, and falls. HSE estimates that 55,000 workers in manufacturing sustained a workplace non-fatal injury each year on average over 2022/23–2024/25⁴.

“Floor safety is often treated as a housekeeping issue, but leaks, drips and spills can quickly become serious risks if they are not controlled,” said Pete Zorgenlos, Head of Product at New Pig Europe.

“Floor Safety Awareness Month is about helping workplaces look again at the areas where liquid risks start – from roof leaks and tracked-in rainwater to equipment drips, washdowns and spills – and take practical steps before they lead to disruption or injury.”

Leaks from above, tracked-in rainwater, equipment drips, washdown liquids and everyday spills can all create floor safety risks if they are not identified and controlled quickly.

When these risks are left unmanaged, liquids can spread into walkways, working areas and shared facilities, increasing the potential for slips, disruption, clean-up demands and avoidable downtime.

It is clear that more needs to be done to help employers and employees recognise the everyday floor safety risks that can lead to slips, trips and falls. As part of the campaign, New Pig Europe is sharing practical guidance to help workplaces assess common risk zones and identify appropriate solutions for leaks, drips, spills and wet-floor hazards.

The campaign resources are designed to help employers and employees look at where liquid risks begin, how they move through the workplace and what can be done to control them before they spread. From loading bays to foyers, and from kitchens to factory floors, New Pig’s guidance highlights how prevention, containment, absorption and fast spill response can support safer, cleaner and more controlled spaces.

Employers and employees are also encouraged to contact New Pig Europe for advice on their key areas of risk and the most appropriate floor safety solutions for their workplace. New Pig Europe provides absorbents, spill control, containment and workplace safety solutions designed to help businesses control leaks, drips and spills.

With over 40 years of international expertise, more than 30 years operating in the UK and over 25 years
supporting customers across Europe, New Pig works with organisations and distributors to help manage liquid risks, reduce wet-floor hazards and create safer, cleaner and better working spaces.

“Our role is to help customers choose the right solution for the risk in front of them,” Pete Zorgenlos added. “That could mean stopping tracked-in moisture at an entrance, diverting leaks from above, containing a spill at source or helping teams respond quickly when liquid reaches the floor. The goal is practical, effective floor safety support from ceiling to floor.”
