BaxterStorey feeds record number of emergency services at Commonwealth Games

BaxterStorey teams in Birmingham have stepped up to the plate, providing a whopping 50,000 meals to the UK’s emergency, security and transport services throughout the Commonwealth Games.

Working in partnership with temporary kitchen provider, PKL Group, the team at Birmingham City University have been feeding organisers, crowd control police officers and the media. 300 full English breakfasts were provided at the Curzon building over a 19-day period and 5000 meals including breakfast, lunch, and Sunday roast dinners at The Pavilion.

As security ramped up, so has the catering offer. Operations manager Neil Bate-Jones and his team are working around the clock to factor in shift patterns for the West Midlands Police and military, including senior chief inspectors, firemen and paramedics.

The team will have prepared over 12,000 hearty meals including chicken tikka masala with dhal, saag aloo and naan bread, mac and cheese with pulled beef brisket and crispy onions, and pulled Cajun chicken burgers.

Serving a staggering 18,000 freshly prepared hot meals, operations director, Nic Ramsdale-Crowshaw and team are overseeing the catering offer for Stagecoach bus drivers across Edrington and Oldbury, as well as two concessions, selling cold drinks, coffee, sandwiches, salads and confectionary.

Commenting on the team’s efforts, operations director Jon Leverett said: “It’s been a mammoth task and a real team effort! I’m so grateful to every person who’s supported us during the last couple of weeks of the Commonwealth Games, making sure our emergency, security and transport services stay fuelled for their long shifts. I couldn’t be prouder of the team”.
