Tilbury Douglas appointed to lead construction of Birmingham Airport’s new Passenger Search Area project

Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, has been appointed to lead the construction of Birmingham Airport’s new modernised passenger search area project.

Supporting the Airport’s masterplan to increase efficiency and create a better passenger experience, this project will result in a speedier, simpler pre-flight security screening process for passengers.

In line with the expected growth of Birmingham Airport, which is likely to be welcoming more than 18m passengers by 2033, the new passenger search area project will include a new roof, new lifts and circulation core, refurbishment of existing atrium and new office accommodation for staff.

Working innovatively with the existing structures, passengers are planned to be using the new security lanes by mid-2024.

Simon Butler, Managing Director Building Central at Tilbury Douglas, said: “We are looking forward to starting work on this important project for the Airport. As part of the scheme, we will be supporting various Solihull based education and careers initiatives, as well as assisting in the refurbishment of the Airport’s own Education Centre.”
