DHF launches Fire Roller Shutter course in collaboration with BRE

Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has announced that it will be launching the revised Fire Roller Shutter course in collaboration with BRE, the first of which will be held on 21st February.

The course is aimed at those involved in installing and maintaining roller shutter fire doors.  Although delegates are expected to already possess an understanding and ability in the installation of rolling shutters/industrial doors, it is ideal for those who now wish to gain additional knowledge relating specifically to fire/smoke resistant roller shutter doors.

The course will comprise elements such as legislation, safe working practice, conformity marking, design and specification, fire testing and certification, installation, safe operation and use, and maintenance and repair, and concludes with a multiple-choice examination.

“We are delighted to once again offer this fully comprehensive one-day course in partnership with BRE,” says DHF’s Head of Commercial Operations, Patricia Sowsbery-Stevens.  “The content has been significantly updated and provides the key details that must be addressed when installing, repairing and maintaining roller shutter fire doors.  The importance of safe roller shutter fire door installation cannot be overemphasised, and poor installation can lead to an otherwise well-manufactured roller shutter door failing to meet the safety standards and, most importantly, failing to meet the required performance in the event of a fire.

“Repair and maintenance of a life-safety device such as a roller shutter fire door is imperative.  Generally, following handover, this responsibility passes to the building owner.  On-going maintenance should be considered a preventive measure to ensure the roller shutter fire door operates correctly at all times, and where problems are identified, it is vital that a scheduled programme is in position to ensure that timely corrective action takes place.”

Following the first course on 21st February, courses will take place on 28th March and 25th April, and all at DHF’s training academy near Tamworth.  DHF members also receive a 15% discount.

“This course will enable the delegate to benefit from a thorough understanding of the regulations and standards applicable to roller shutter fire doors, provide clarification on conformity marking, fire testing and certification for roller shutter fire doors, offer an appreciation of the importance of critical components, and an understanding of the importance of regular repair and maintenance schedules,” concludes Patricia.
