Ten year anniversary cycling challenge announced

Corps Security has announced Le Tour de Corps 2023, a cycling challenge raising funds for Combat Stress.

In 2013 a team of colleagues cycled from Stevenage via London and Cardiff and ended in Glasgow seven days later. Ten years on with a team comprising some of the original riders, a selection of company colleagues and a representative from Combat Stress will take on the challenge again.

The team will revisit the challenge next month, with the aim of completing the ride in reverse order and covering 1,200 km (750 miles), beginning in Glasgow and visiting the company’s mainland offices en route to its headquarters in London.

The route will involve nearly 10,000m of climbing as it winds through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and the Brecon Beacons over seven arduous days.

The original event raised over £5,000 for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (as part of its Commando Spirit project). This year the team will be raising funds for Combat Stress, and hopes to raise more to support vital work for veterans in the UK.

Sales and marketing director Andy Topp said: “Exactly ten years on from the original Tour de Corps, we are delighted to be taking on the challenge once again, this time raising money to support the mental health and wellbeing of veterans through Combat Stress. Every penny we raise will make a difference to veterans, their families and loved ones, helping them to reintegrate into society following their service to our country. From everyone at Corps Security, we thank you for your support.”

The riders are hoping for sponsorship to support the veterans the charity supports. Below is an outline of how Combat Stress use the money to support veterans:

•            £25 could fund a veteran’s call to the Combat Stress helpline

•            £63 funds an online 1:1 art therapy session

•            £75 would pay for a 1:1 session with an occupational therapist.

•            £105 would allow 3 veterans to have a 1 to 1 peer support session.

•            £290 could pay towards a veteran’s appointment with a psychiatrist
