VIVO Defence – a joint venture between Serco and Equans – works solely for the UK military and its partners providing asset and facilities management services as well as maintenance on behalf of the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation.

This involves looking after more than 27,000 military family homes, over 20,000 operational buildings and millions of square metres of grounds at hundreds of sites for the Royal Navy, the British Army, the Royal Air Force and the United States Visiting Forces (USVF).

And gaining silver in the first year shows that VIVO’s dedication to ensuring its staff, customers, clients and contractors stay safe in all its working environments is really important to it.

The RoSPA programme recognises an organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Sean McGovern, Director of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality at VIVO Defence, said: “Health and safety is at the heart of everything we do, we must ensure the safety of everybody who works for us or with us as well as those we work for. We are really pleased we have gained a silver award in our first year and shall be spending the next year working hard to try and achieve gold.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, said: “Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded.

“We are thrilled that VIVO Defence has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees, clients, contractors and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

Sponsored by Croner-i, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, and receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for the health and safety industry.
