UKMDA are celebrating the issuing of the first 3 GQA Qualifications awarded to metal decking and stud welding operatives in the UK. NVQ qualifications are a core stipulation for all skilled workers in the building and construction sector, and a pre-requisite to obtaining a trade-specific CSCS Card.
Since it was formed the UKMDA has championed NVQ qualifications for operatives. The GQA is the second award body to offer this valuable vocational qualification alongside Training Qualifications UK (TQUK).
The employees of UK Steel Decking Ltd, John Hill, Bernard Schoolar and Daniel Bleasdale were all awarded their certificates in August 2024, having successfully completed their training with GQA Qualifications.
GQA Qualifications Ltd is an awarding body for specialist sectors and occupational roles including those in the construction sector. The qualification comprises of several mandatory units, including general health and safety, moving and handling, preparing and operating powered tools, pedestrian plant and machinery in the workplace. Additional components cover installation of metal decking and edge trims and stud welding.
