Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, is pleased to announce its appointment to lead the construction of the new Beacon Academy, in Cleethorpes, on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE).
The project forms an integral part of the DfE School Rebuilding Programme, a decade-long initiative that involves the reconstruction or renovation of more than 500 schools and sixth form colleges nationwide. This transformative endeavour aims to enhance learning environments for both students and teachers.
Procured through the DfE’s Framework, this project will deliver a new three-storey secondary school building. Additionally, one existing block will be refurbished to offer general teaching classrooms and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) teaching facilities. The project will also include improved visitor parking and new social spaces for students.
Beacon Academy is a popular school and has recently increased the number of pupils that can attend – the new school will be built to accommodate this. Aiming for Net Zero Carbon in operation, the new school will incorporate air source heat pumps and a green roof equipped with integrated photovoltaic panels, reducing energy consumption and enhancing biodiversity.
Paul Ellenor, Regional Director for Yorkshire and the North East at Tilbury Douglas, said: “This project is a really important opportunity for both Tilbury Douglas and the community. We are committed to supporting local economic growth, creating local jobs by collaborating with supply chain partners, employing apprentices, and offering T-Level opportunities.”
Phil Shaw, Managing Director – Building North at Tilbury Douglas, added: “Our selection by the DfE to construct the new Beacon Academy cements our reputation as a leading construction company in the UK education sector and follows our recent appointment to build Sugar Hill Primary School.”
Jason Thurley, Head Teacher, said: “The whole Beacon Academy community is extremely excited about the project to rebuild our school with a brand new state-of-the-art facility which will transform the educational experience for our students for many years to come. The new building will provide fantastic facilities for our current children and future generations attending the academy. It will also enable us to fully realise our ambitious curriculum and provide first class facilities for our teachers and students.
“The students and staff are very excited about the new academy and enjoy watching the construction taking place. We are delighted to have been chosen by the DfE. I would like to thank the project teams from the DfE, Tilbury Douglas and the Wellspring Academy Trust. The support the academy has received has been exceptional and we are very grateful.”
