The Catterick Integrated Care Centre (CICC), a first-of-its-kind MOD-NHS collaboration to build a Medical Centre for military and civilian communities, has been described as the future of defence healthcare delivery.
Director of Defence Healthcare Air Vice Marshal Dave McLoughlin made the comments during a visit to the state-of-the-art site which is currently under construction.
The CICC, which will enable more than 300 medical personnel from the MOD and the NHS to treat up to 1,000 people a day, is due to open in 2026 and will be a unique UK based facility to serve both military and civilians.
Thanking CICC staff, as well as Tilbury Douglas, the construction firm awarded the contract to build the centre, Air Vice Marshall McLoughlin said: “It is a pleasure to be here at the CICC and to see first-hand how it is taking shape. We are all in this together – both the military and the NHS and all those responsible for delivering it – to deliver the medical services that the military and civilian community here deserve. This fantastic new facility is the future and belongs to all those who will work and be treated here.
“It is a great example of what we can do when Defence and the NHS are integrated, combining our resources and expertise. It will benefit people across the Catterick area and demonstrates why it is important that Defence and the NHS continue to increase integration in the future.”
Paul Ellenor, Regional Director – Yorkshire and North East at Tilbury Douglas, said: “At Tilbury Douglas, we are proud to be delivering the Catterick Integrated Care Centre, a pioneering project that exemplifies true collaboration between the MOD and NHS. This state-of-the-art facility will set a new benchmark for integrated healthcare, ensuring military personnel, their families, and civilians have access to the highest standards of medical care. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that this vital project is completed to the highest quality, ready to serve the community for years to come.”
Ensuring access to the right care, at the right time, in the right setting, the CICC will support military personnel, their families, and civilians by providing a range of medical services.
Sarah Reid, Defence Primary Health Care Operations Manager North Region, said: “This is a fantastic facility that will really create a fabulous sense of community as UK military personnel and their families will be able to obtain healthcare within the same building, in a modern integrated care centre.
“I am excited that we have been able to work with the NHS to make this happen. I am looking forward to the CICC opening in late 2026 so that we can begin delivering healthcare, and it is my hope that this becomes a model for how the NHS and MOD can integrate in the future.”
Work continues at pace to ensure the CICC is fully ready to start seeing patents when it opens.
