Research from Microsoft shows that the UK is benefitting from flexible working. 84% of those surveyed in the UK said they are as productive or even more productive compared to a year ago.

The Work Trend Index showed that 53% of people are likely to consider transitioning to hybrid working in the next year.

Despite the research feedback from Microsoft, demand for office space still continues to increase. A survey completed by Irwin Mitchell suggests that many still see the office as a collaborative space that can nurture employees in a way that embodies an organisation’s culture.


In business, Wates Group has announced that it has achieved its highest ever operating profit.

The firm reported profits of £40m – securing £2.3bn of new work in 2021.

PTSG has also reported many works being completed this week, including some specialist electrical services in central London. PTSG has 47 UK offices and its engineers work nationwide.


In social value, the UK Green Building Council has released a new toolkit that helps businesses scale the delivery of social value dependent on their size. The Supply Chain Sustainability School (the “School”) has partnered with major construction clients and contractors, to develop and launch the Fairness, Inclusion & Respect Growth Assessment. The Assessment helps leaders and managers to recognise their best practice and highlights areas for improvement.


And finally, with the Workplace Event just around the corner, the event organisers have announced the theme of the Workplace Hackathon. ‘How organisations deal with the practical implications of flexible working’ will aim to use creative problem-solving techniques to ‘unstick’ some of the challenges with flexible working programmes by asking delegates to form groups around specific challenges that this approach to work presents.
