Mitie takes off on a further seven-year partnership with Manchester Airport

Mitie has been awarded a new multi-million-pound contract with Manchester Airports Group (MAG) for a further seven years, providing essential facilities management (FM) services, including engineering, decarbonisation, cleaning & hygiene services, and pest control, to support the every-day running of Manchester Airport, the UK’s third largest airport.

Mitie will also bring its expertise in decarbonisation, including using new electric vehicles to transport materials around the airport and an electric jet washing van used to clean the terminal fronts. This will support MAG’s Sustainability Strategy as it aims to achieve net zero by 2038.  Mitie’s highly skilled engineers will provide quality mechanical and electrical maintenance on ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) at the airport as we all as safety systems such as firm alarms, fire suppression systems, and emergency public address systems which alerts travellers to evacuate in case of a fire.

Mitie will also provide intelligence-led cleaning services using its cutting-edge cleaning technology platform Merlin, which alerts colleagues to crucial health and safety updates, tasks, and equipment condition reports. Other services colleagues will deliver include plumbing and washroom hygiene, window cleaning, and pest control.The contract extension has created 32 additional new jobs, who will join the 350 Mitie colleagues already working across the airport. Manchester Airport welcomes more than 30 million passengers a year and is nearing the completion of its 10-year transformation.  

Mitie is supporting its expansion of Terminal 2, providing electrical, mechanical work and cleaning services to minimise disruption ahead of its opening. Once complete, Terminal 2 will handle more than 70% of the airport’s traffic and check-in desks and a new security hall equipped with the latest technology, a departure lounge with shops, bars, and restaurants for passengers to enjoy, and additional departure gates.
