Derbyshire-based firm, Brilliant Ideas Ltd, has announced that their Safety Net Recovery System has been nominated at this year’s Construction News Specialist Awards.
The system provides a simple, yet highly effective solution for rescuing site operatives who have fallen from height into a safety net. After already winning awards from Fall Arrest Safety Equipment Training (FASET) and British Precast for their unique solution, it’s hoped that further recognition will be shown to raise awareness of the company’s solution.
Chris Massey, Managing Director of Brilliant Ideas Ltd, Beresford’s Flooring Ltd, and Board Member at FASET, shared the following poignant story:
“The idea for the Recovery System came about after we experienced a major incident when one of our Beresford’s operatives working on an open leading edge had a cardiac arrest.
Despite the best efforts of colleagues performing CPR for 18-minutes until paramedics arrived – he died in hospital. In many ways we were fortunate that he collapsed onto scaffolding rather than falling into the net, because it would have been almost impossible to get to him, as current systems are impractical or too slow.”
This solution means that an operative can be easily rescued in under three minutes, in spaces where the floor to height is as low as 3.5 metres.
Commenting on the nomination, Tony Seddon, FASET Managing Director, said: “It’s essential that more recognition is shown towards this fantastic innovation. I’m proud to have such inspirational individuals on our board, leading the way in creating solutions to the very real practical problems out industry faces.”
