Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK-based building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company, is pleased to announce the successful topping out of the Catterick Integrated Care Campus, marking a key milestone in the construction of this state-of-the-art facility.
The event was celebrated with a special ceremony that brought together representatives from The Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), Tilbury Douglas, Vivo, UK Strategic Command (UKSC), the National Health Service (NHS) and AECOM.
The topping out ceremony, a time-honoured tradition in the construction industry, involved the project team gathering to sign the steel beam that will form the roof of the new facility. This symbolic act underscores the collaborative effort of all partners involved in the project and signifies the nearing of completion of the building’s structural framework.
The Catterick Integrated Care Campus is a first of its kind integration between the MOD and NHS and will deliver transformative integrated health and care services to the military and civilian communities. The collaboration will enable shared facilities, expertise and learning to optimise the health and care services for people across Catterick, North Yorkshire and the wider Richmondshire areas.
The facility will include modern health and care services, significantly enhancing the quality of care available in the region.
The MOD’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation awarded the design and construction contract to Tilbury Douglas, which includes a substantial commitment to social value. Subcontractors from within a 50-mile radius of Catterick are being prioritised for the work to support local business and veterans.
Speaking at the event, Paul Ellenor, Regional Director – North East at Tilbury Douglas, said: “The topping out ceremony is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project. This milestone brings us one step closer to delivering a world-class healthcare facility that will serve the needs of both the military and the local community for years to come.”
Phil Shaw, Managing Director – Building North at Tilbury Douglas, commented on the milestone, stating: “This topping out ceremony is not just a celebration of construction progress, but a reflection of Tilbury Douglas’ strategic commitment to delivering excellence in both the healthcare and defence sectors. Our extensive experience in these critical areas has enabled us to bring together best practices and innovative solutions, ensuring that the Catterick Integrated Care Campus will meet the highest standards of care and operational efficiency. We are proud to be playing a pivotal role in a project that will have such a profound impact on the well-being of both military personnel and the local community.”
Catterick Integrated Care Campus is expected to be handed over in Spring 2026 and operational by Autumn 2026 and, upon completion will stand as a model for future integrated healthcare facilities.
