FM service provider Emcor Uk has confirmed it has joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative – a voluntary platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.
Launched in 2000, it is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 15,000 companies and 3,800 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 69 local networks.
It joins thousands of other companies globally, including 869 participants across the UK, that are committed to taking responsible business actions.
It is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The company stated it is actively engaged with eight of the SDGs which guide its business strategy, specifically global goals and sustainability framework.
Executive director Jonathan Gawthrop said: “We constantly strive to deliver meaningful and long-lasting change within our organisation to benefit our people, customers and the planet. By joining the UN Global Compact, we hope to further this work through the economic, social, and environmental goals it has established, and by collaborating with other companies to learn and share best practice.”
