International Womenโ€™s Day was a huge focus for the FM industry this week as many reported on the progress it had made when it comes to supporting women in the workplace and reducing the gender pay gap.

This comes as the PwC released its Women in Work index that showed, while the UK had made progress, there were still significant challenges ahead where womenโ€™s jobs were affected more than menโ€™s over the course of the pandemic.


This week was also National Careers Week, in which companies such as Pinnacle and Mears Group demonstrated the significant support they had provided to bridge the skills gap in the sector. Pinnacle reported successes through the Government Kickstart Scheme, while Mears Group announced its support of 20 apprentices in Scotland.

Businesses are set to benefit from a ยฃ288 million Green Heat Network Fund which will help roll out the next generation of green heating solutions.

The fund, announced by the government, is aimed at helping businesses cut carbon emissions and deliver clean heating.


And finally, studies have found that the pandemic has made a four-day working week more attractive.

Henley Business School revealed that 65% of UK businesses surveyed are now implementing a four-day working week for some, or all, of their staff โ€“ compared to 50% who answered a similar survey in 2019.

The move has achieved an estimated ยฃ104bn in financial savings across the country.
