ISS on the topic of the sustainable workplace

The Scottish Institute of Workplace & Facility Management hosted its latest industry event on 24th April this year. Exploring the future of Workplace and Sustainability, proceedings brought industry experts together with opportunities for networking, conversation and insights into their own winning strategies.

Hosting the event was Mark Jenkins, Senior Critical Engineering Lead from Glasgow Campus, with Ian Traxler, ISS UK&I Head of Workplace and Siobhan Riordan, ISS UK&I Head of Sustainability joining as guests to discuss the future of Workplace and Sustainability.

Ian engaged with the IWFM members on a series of current and incoming industry trends set to evolve the Workplace. Covering the rise of hybrid working, the demands of the future worker and how businesses large and small need to adapt their strategies, Ian engaged the audience with a broad, complex discussion on adaptability, inclusive and embracing diverse cultural trends.

From the way we now dress, to an evolution of working habits, Ian challenged the room’s thinking on generational habits, expectations and the common biases that still exist in traditional workplaces. These talking points launched a great debate among attendees, touching upon post-Covid attitudes, embracing a wider generational workforce, and adopting the skills of the new generation of workers.

Following Ian’s talk, Siobhan took to the stage to share how worldwide businesses are tackling workplace Sustainability, including the industry-leading strategies adopted by businesses worldwide.

A very positive and enthusiastic presentation, Siobhan took time to lament on the future of sustainable workplaces, the investment required to truly make an impact across the globe,  and how companies embracing sustainability are finding creative ways to lower their carbon footprint at every turn.

Described as ‘thought provoking’, ‘inspirational’ and ‘interesting’ by attendees, Siobhan’s message that we need to ‘Adapt to Survive’ reinforced the duty of care that businesses will need to adopt as they work towards a sustainable future.

As ISS works tirelessly towards its net-zero commitments, events such as these are the perfect opportunity to share our journey, discuss the topics that matter and learn valuable lessons from our industry peers and partners.

We’d like to thank Mark Jenkins for arranging and coordinating such an interesting and valuable IWFM event, and congratulate Ian Traxler and Siobhan Riordan for inciting such captivating discussions among our industry partners.
