enfinium, a leading UK energy-from-waste operator, has published its Positive Impact Report 2024, highlighting a landmark year of progress towards its vision of becoming a carbon removals business and decarbonisation partner of choice.
Its latest report, ‘Leading Change: Powering the Future’, details the company’s progress in delivering its ambitious decarbonisation strategy outlined in its Net Zero Transition Plan.
Launched in 2024, the Net Zero Transition Plan details the company’s pathway to achieving net zero across its operations by 2033 and delivering carbon removals at scale by 2039 using Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) technology.
To progress these plans, in 2024 enfinium submitted its Parc Adfer facility as a candidate for grant support to install CCUS technology through the UK Government’s Track-1 HyNet Expansion programme. It has since passed the feasibility assessment.
Another notable milestone was the launch of the UK’s first carbon capture pilot at an energy-from-waste facility at enfinium’s Ferrybridge site. The pilot trialled a scaled-down version of a CCS technology that enfinium could deploy across all of its sites. The pilot programme has since been extended to two sites, launching the first carbon capture pilot in Wales in over a decade and testing next-generation technology at Ferrybridge.

In 2024, enfinium continued its efforts to contribute to a circular economy and decarbonise the UK’s unrecyclable waste. enfinium diverted over 2.3 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from landfill, avoiding nearly 560,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions and recovering low-carbon electricity equivalent to powering over 500,000 homes and businesses. This was achieved whilst operating to the highest environmental performing standards, achieving the highest possible environmental performance rating (“A”) from the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales across all operational facilities, for the second year running.
In addition to its decarbonisation progress, enfinium has continued its investment in local communities, with over £273,000 of grant funding shared with charities, not-for-profit organisations, schools, community and voluntary groups.
Alongside this commitment, 2024 saw the launch of enfinium’s Repair Café Support Fund, committing £60,000 over a three-year period to help Repair Cafés across the UK fix repairable goods, reduce waste, and save families money. In its first year, enfinium’s fund supported the work of 15 Repair Cafés, awarding a combined total of £16,079 in funding.
